A decade ago, a drought that followed a period of heavy rainfall renewed hope that natural grasses were returning to Lake Okeechobee. In turn, there was optimism the renewed vegetation might spawn new generations of sport fish, including bass and crappie.
Back then, there was hope a lower lake water level could create an improved fishing destination for visitors. Fishing once was Lake O’s claim to fame and supported jobs.
