South Florida has again been dealt too much rainfall, too early in the year.
With few options, water managers are faced again with terrible choices: either stacking water in a lake whose dike can’t safely hold it or releasing it into an ecosystem that can’t survive it.
Nothing lays bare the shortfalls of our flood management system and water management policies like relentless rain.
And nothing sparks the frustration of Floridians more than seeing the wetlands and waterways we love overwhelmed by discharges to the east and west from Lake Okeechobee and to the south from the Everglades Agricultural Area.
People deserve real solutions. Everglades restoration is that solution.
