"Long after we are gone, the Everglades will be our legacy to our children, to our grandchildren and to our nation."

About Us

The Everglades Trust, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) corporation created to ensure Everglades restoration is completed on time and on budget. It was founded in 1994 by the late George Barley (1934-1995), a seventh generation Floridian, who met his untimely death in a 1995 plane crash while on his way to attend an Everglades-related meeting. George's no-nonsense business acumen quickly put Everglades restoration in the environmental spotlight.

Fortunately, George's vision of a restored Everglades for our children, our children's children and our nation did not perish, and, today, the Trust is guided by a powerhouse of dedicated people who love Florida, as George did.

It is chaired by noted Florida trial attorney, E. Thom Rumberger, who, along with advocates in Washington D.C., Tallahassee and throughout Florida, are working for the speedy restoration of the Everglades-Florida Bay ecosystem and full funding for Restoring the Everglades, an American Legacy Act (REAL), the implementing legislation for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

The Everglades Trust is the only watchdog group working solely on Everglades issues. It partners with other environmental groups, state and federal officials, citizens and taxpayers to force polluters to stop damaging these vital environmental resources, to pay their fair share for restoration, and to overcome their well-heeled lobbying efforts to disrupt and delay the restoration process.
